Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah on Saturday said the blemish of corruption has failed to touch the Narendra Modi government which did not record even a single graft case in its first year.

Lauding the achievements of the BJP government at the Centre, Mr. Shah, addressing the two-day executive meet of the Maharashtra party unit in Kolhapur, lashed out at the Congress, saying the party lacked the moral credibility to speak about the accountability of the Modi government.

“Those who have not done anything for the country in the last 60 years have no right to ask what we [the BJP] have done in one year,” Mr. Shah said, rejecting Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s attacks on the Modi government.

Poverty eradication

The Modi government’s drive to eradicate poverty in a single year was unmatched by the limp efforts of the Congress governments in the past, Mr. Shah said.

On the completion of a year of the BJP government at the Centre under Mr. Modi and six months of BJP rule in Maharashtra under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mr. Shah said both leaders rooted out the corruption that was a baleful legacy of Congress-led governments at the Centre and the State.

In a bid to defuse tensions with the Shiv Sena Mr. Shah thanked the alliance partners for their wholehearted support, noting their contribution in the achievements of the Central and State governments.

During the two-day meet, Mr. Shah will discuss the effects of beef ban in Maharashtra and the negative feedback on the land acquisition Bill in its present form.
