Congress caused India’s many problems: Amit Shah

Says party has no internal democracy in its workings

BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday exhorted the youth to contribute to nation-building and participate in democratic processes.

He was inaugurating a two-day Youth Parliament at Karnavati University in Gandhinagar.

“For India to develop, we need the participation of youth. Our youth have a big role to play in nation-building,” Mr. Shah said.

The two-day event, titled Forum for Democratic Dialogues, is hosting national leaders including Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, Rajya Sabha member Subramaniam Swamy, BJP parliamentarian Meenaxi Lekhi, Congress spokespersons Priyanka Chaturvedi and Pawan Khera and others.

In his inaugural speech, Mr. Shah talked about the NDA government’s achievements. “We are the world’s oldest and largest democracy. If we have to think about India of 2025, we need to study our past and analyse where we are today. New India will be free of casteism, corruption and terrorism,”' Mr. Shah said.

“No nation can progress on its own or with the contribution of just a few individuals; hence, the youth have an important role to play in building the nation and further strengthening it,” the BJP chief said.

He also used the platform to attack the Congress and blamed it for many problems the country is facing today. “The party that ruled the country before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister failed to create internal democracy in its workings,” Mr Shah said
