The All India Association of Jurists (AIAJ), while condoling the death of eminent jurist V.R. Krishna Iyer, has once again urged President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to confer the Bharat Ratna on him for the yeomen service rendered by him.

In a message, AIAJ chairman M. Antony Selvaraj said it was Justice Krishna Iyer’s efforts which made the Supreme Court consider the issues and problems of the small man on the street. He was the people’s judge and the voice of the voiceless and hence the honour should be conferred on him.

‘Install statue’

Mr. Selvaraj also urged the Supreme Court Bar Association to take steps to install a statue of Justice Krishna Iyer in the apex court complex as a fitting tribute to the legendary figure.
