Stating that the CBI probe was conducted in a “clandestine manner,” a special court here on Wednesday rejected a closure report in the coal blocks allocation scam and asked the agency to further investigate the case.

In the 24-page order throwing out the plea for closing the case against Vikas Metal and Power Limited, Special Judge Bharat Parashar came down hard on the case’s investigating officer for hiding documents and statements of witnesses from the court.

“I am rather constrained to observe that the investigation in the present matter has been carried out in a clandestine manner…,” Mr. Parashar observed.

The court also pulled up the Superintendent of Police of the probe agency who had forwarded the closure report for the lapses in the investigation. The investigating officer tendered an unconditional apology to the court.
