The Confederation of Indian Industry on Sunday welcomed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s speech at the FICCI on Saturday, calling for speedy decisions and endorsement for labour laws and reforms regarding power, land and natural resources. CII president Kris Gopalakrishnan in a statement said Mr. Gandhi had comprehensively touched all issues with which industry had been grappling for sometime now since the economy had slowed down.

Mr. Gandh’s statement would help the manufacturing sector contribute 25 per cent of the GDP and ensure employment to 100 million people, he said.

Mr. Gopalakrishnan hoped industry would draw confidence from Mr. Gandhi’s commitment to reforms, growth and sustainable economic development.

He described as bold Mr. Gandhi’s attack against corruption which industry too had been vocal about stressing on inducting technology to reduce human interface.

Godrej Industries Limited chairman Adi Godrej said the Congress leader’s stress on resolving regulations and administrative procedures would encourage investor sentiments and boost investments. He hoped the government would make decision making transparent, timely and fair and follow his prescriptions to root out corruption.

Sundaram-Clayton Limited MD Venu Srinivasan maintained Mr. Gandhi was perhaps the first political leader to approve of a modern and flexible labour market of international standards. He said Mr. Gandhi’s approach towards the manufacturing sector would bring about a paradigm shift in the economy.
