The Union Home Ministry has asked for report from the Odisha Home Secretary regarding allegation of police atrocity on a pregnant woman in Jarada police station.

Former Deputy Speaker of Odisha Ram Chandra Panda had made allegations of ‘omission and commission’ in this case. As per reports, on October 25, 2014 night, a police team led by inspector-in-charge of Jarada police station K.P. Das had raided the house of a person at Patrapur village. It was alleged that while the pregnant wife of that person was trying to open the door, the police inspector had kicked her abdomen. Later during tests it had been suspected that the child in the womb was harmed. On November 16, 2014, she had given birth to a dead child, which had sparked off demonstrations against the police inspector.

On November 18, 2014, a dawn-to-dusk bandh had been observed at Patrapur over the issue.

A BJP team led by Mr. Panda had reached Patrapur. Based on their findings, Mr Panda had sent his representation to the Home ministry and the National Human Rights Commission.
