CBI to probe ₹500-crore Ponzi scam case

As directed by the Allahabad High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into a ₹500-crore Ponzi scam allegedly run by a Ghaziabad company offering money for clicking on online advertisements.

The FIR says Webwork Trade Links has cheated over one lakh people. It had opened a “shadow” firm, Addsbook Marketing Private Limited, with its website Addsbook.com, which was endorsed by Bollywood celebrities Shah Rukh Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Those named as accused are Anurag Garg and Sandesh Verma, promoters of Webwork Trade Links. They offered money to people clicking advertisements on the website. But they asked the clients to accept payments through Bitcoin.

The victim, on whose complaint the case was registered, said he and his family members invested in the company, hoping for good returns. But the company suddenly stopped payments.
