The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday said it had seized 16 more imported luxury cars as it continued with raids on the alleged Customs law violation racket run by a Hyderabad-based businessman. While probing the same case, the CBI had searched the residence of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader >M.K. Stalin in Chennai — a step that was widely criticised by almost all political parties.

During searches on the premises of accused persons, documents relating to imported vehicles and property in Delhi were recovered. All these incriminating documents recovered were being scrutinised, sources in the CBI said. A case was registered in connection with the import of 33 vehicles in Tamil Nadu involving duty evasion to the tune of Rs. 48 crore. The CBI has booked an importer and a senior intelligence officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, who allegedly did not take any action in the matter, the sources said adding some sleuths also visited the residence of Mr. Stalin’s brother M.K. Alagiri on Thursday looking for another imported vehicle which was allegedly purchased from Alex C Joseph. However, a Hummer, registered in the name Mr. Stalin’s son Udayanidhi Stalin, remained untraceable, they said.

The CBI on Thursday recovered 17 vehicles from 18 places.
