Case against R.R. Patil for ‘provocative’ speech

April 11, 2013 03:23 am | Updated 03:23 am IST - Belgaum:

The Belgaum police have registered a case against Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil for alleged provocative utterances here on Sunday.

He was addressing a function to celebrate the birthday of Tarun Bharat, Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti leader and editor of a Marathi daily. The model code is in force in view of the coming Assembly elections.

Mr. Patil’s objectionable remarks came while he recalled an incident when the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike had smeared the face of Vijay Pandurang More, the then Belgaum Mayor, for passing a resolution seeking merger of Belgaum and other Marathi-speaking boundary areas with Maharashtra.
