CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat on Friday said his party supported amendments to the Constitution on the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh.
“Unfortunately, some parties are opposing it. It [the agreement] is necessary and in the interest of both countries,” he told reporters here.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni is in Delhi to garner support from opposition leaders for the agreement.
To another query, Mr. Karat said his party wanted the Teesta water sharing treaty negotiated and settled with Bangladesh.
Mamata’s stand
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently said her government would agree to the Teesta treaty only after getting the nod for it from the people of north Bengal, and never at the cost of the region drying up.
