Bodies of nine soldiers brought to Siachen base camp

February 14, 2016 02:23 am | Updated September 02, 2016 02:15 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The bodies of the nine soldiers killed in the avalanche last week on the Siachen glacier were brought down to the Siachen base camp in helicopters on Saturday.

However, further movement to Leh was not possible due to bad weather.

“We are trying our best to transport the mortal remains of our martyrs to Delhi and further to their home towns by tomorrow,” Army officials said.

Ten soldiers of 19 Madras Regiment were buried under 35 feet of snow after their post, at a height of 19,600 feet, was hit by an avalanche on February 3.

The bodies of the soldiers could not be brought down from the avalanche site due to bad weather.
