BJP tops in income of national parties in 2016-17

The BJP was not only the richest party in terms of income in 2016-17, as its Income Tax Returns revealed. It also registered the third highest increase among seven major parties over the previous year, according to research by the Association for Democratic Reforms .

The Congress party's income fell by 14%. BSP registered the highest increase in terms of percentage (266.32%) and the Trinamool Congress, the biggest drop in income (-81.52%). Only three of the seven major parties registered an increase in income. The following scatterplot shows party income in 2016-17 and the relative change (in %) since 2015-16.
