Hindi film director Madhur Bhandarkar was on Monday granted bail by a local court here in a rape case. But the director will not be allowed to leave the country without the court's permission. “Mr. Bhandarkar was given conditional bail till November 29 based on some old bond papers of 2004,” Sushan Kunjuraman, counsel for the complainant, Priti Jain, told The Hindu .
Ms. Jain, a struggling actor, had registered a case against Mr. Bhandarkar in 2004 alleging that he had raped her and had made false promise of casting her in films and of marrying her. Mr. Bhandarkar had sought anticipatory bail in the 2004 case. On Monday, he executed the bond of Rs. 30,000 before the Magistrate's Court.
“The court has put four conditions to Bhandarkar: that he should not tamper with the evidence; that he should not leave Mumbai without the court's permission; that he should attend the court regularly; and that he should soon surrender his passport before the court,” Mr. Kunjuraman said.
He said the court was expected to commit the case to the sessions court for trial on November 29.
