Bangalore police team leaves for Delhi

December 01, 2011 12:09 am | Updated July 31, 2016 07:14 pm IST - BANGALORE:

A team of senior officials from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) here has left for Delhi following the arrest of six suspected operatives of the Indian Mujahideen, who the Delhi police claimed were involved in the blasts at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in April 2010.

Besides the twin blasts outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 17 persons injured, the six suspected operatives, including two Pakistan nationals, are believed to be involved in the German Bakery blasts and also the blasts outside Jama Masjid in Delhi.

Sources said the Bangalore police had suspected the role of Indian Mujahideen in the blasts and the investigations also revolved around the role of IM cadre.

“There were many suspects in the blasts, and our officials have carried the documents and dossiers built for the case. We need to further ascertain the role of these suspects, who are in the Delhi police custody,” sources said.

Twin blasts

Nearly an hour before the IPL league match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians on April 17, two low-intensity improvised explosive devices (IEDs) exploded outside the stadium. A third device with a 3.2 kg explosive, timer and battery were recovered outside gate 12 even as the match was in progress.
