A skating instructor was arrested on Sunday on the charge of raping a six-year-old girl at a private school at Marathahalli on July 3.
City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar identified the arrested person as Mustafa alias Munna (30), who has been a skating instructor at the school for the past two-and-a-half years. He has been booked under Section 376 of IPC and Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act 2012.
Mustafa had been detained for questioning along with a security guard soon after the incident was reported to the police.
A senior police official said they had seized his laptop, which reportedly contained child pornography.
According to the police, a school in Whitefield had terminated Mustafa’s services after his alleged involvement in a sexual assault case. But the matter was not reported to the police. And, the school at Marathahalli, where he works, had not verified his background before employing him.
However, Mr. Auradkar said that they were yet to verify the details about the earlier incident. He did not rule out the possibility of the suspect having been involved in other child sexual abuse cases.
A senior official told The Hindu that they had got circumstantial and material evidence to prove the involvement of Mustafa in the case.
The CCTV camera footage showed Mustafa dragging the six-year-old student into a room on July 3 afternoon. Initially, it was believed that the crime took place on July 2.
The CCTV camera footage also showed the girl crying, the police official said.
The rape survivor, who was shown the photograph of suspects, identified the skating instructor as the perpetrator of the crime. However, an identification parade is yet to be conducted.
