A court here on Saturday issued a bailable warrant against the former Union Health Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss, who was chargesheeted for alleged irregularities in allowing an Indore-based medical college to function without adequate faculty and facilities.

The court observed that he appeared to have “intentionally avoided” the summons.

The Central Bureau of Investigation told Special Judge Talwant Singh that the summons could not be served on the Pattali Makkal Katchi leader as he was not available at his Chennai residence and had gone to Bangalore for medical treatment.

Dr. Ramadoss was chargesheeted on April 27 by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption Act for criminal misconduct amounting to abuse of official position by a public servant, along with nine others — two senior faculty members of the Safdarjung Hospital here, two Central Government officers and five officials of the Index Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Indore.

“I want his presence in court. It appears that the accused is intentionally avoiding the service of the summons issued to him. Issue bailable warrants in the sum of Rs.10,000 against him to be executed under the supervision of the DIG of the concerned branch for July 20,” Mr. Singh said.

The court said it was not satisfied with the report of non-serving of summons and asked an inspector and a police constable to be present at the next date hearing to explain why it could not be served on Dr. Ramadoss.
