September 15, 2011 12:04 am | Updated August 03, 2016 11:07 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The condition of Mohammad Ayazuddin, son of the former Indian cricket team captain, Mohammed Azharuddin, continued to be critical on Wednesday.

Mr. Ayazuddin was seriously injured in a road accident while driving a 1000 cc motor cycle on the Outer Ring Road on Sunday. His cousin Ajmal-ur-Rehman, who was pillion riding, died on the way to hospital. Mr. Ayazuddin, who suffered multiple fractures and severe damage to his brain, lungs and kidneys, has not regained consciousness. Doctors removed one of the damaged kidneys as they could not control bleeding on Tuesday.

“His neurological status [following hypoxia due to cardiac arrest prior to arrival at the hospital] continues to be a cause for grave concern,” hospital CEO Dr. Hari Prasad said on Wednesday evening. A multi-speciality team of doctors was continuously monitoring his condition round the clock. “His vital parameters are being maintained with supports and he continues to be on the ventilator. His status remains critical.”
