The Supreme Court on Monday quizzed the Delhi Police on the alleged security lapse on February 17 when an >unidentified person assaulted JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar inside the Patiala House courtroom in the presence of his escort posse as a mob raged outside, attacking innocent students and teachers.
The person had been first described by senior advocate Rajeev Dhawan, who was part of a Supreme Court team which went to Patiala House to take stock of the violence and safety provided to the accused, as a “gentleman in dark glasses”. A Bench led by Justice Chelameswar conveyed its dismay and said the police's conduct may spur the court into ordering an enquiry into the alleged incident. The Delhi police, represented by senior advocate Ajit Sinha, denied any such assault on Mr. Kumar inside the courtroom.
