Vociferous protests by the Opposition during the debate on demonetisation led to the stalling of proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Members of the Congress, the TMC and the BSP raised slogans demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in the Upper House,.

Both the Houses were adjourned till tomorrow.

House adjourned till tomorrow.

Bill to amend Income Tax Act to impose tax on deposits made in banks post demonetisation passed without any debate.

 

Lok Sabha | 2.30 p.m.

House holds a discussion on the I-T Bill. Opposition opposes voting on the Bill. "The government is bulldozing the Opposition," it says.

Bhartruhari Mahtab of the BJD says demonetisation issue should be taken up before the I-T Bill.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley calls the Bill a crackdown on corruption.

House adjourned till 11 a.m. tomorrow.

Shouting of slogans resumes as Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan starts replying to a question on hallmarking of diamonds.  Opposition members start shouting again.

Question Hour begins amid shouting of slogans by the Opposition. To a question on tiger conservation, the government says 70 per cent of the tigers are in India (2,200), and steps are being taken increase their number.

Revolutionary Socialist Party member N.K. Premachandran gives privilege motion notice against Revenue Secretary for announcing the date of disclosure of money by December 30  even as the Bill is still not passed by Parliament

Opposition leaders' meeting is on in Parliament, reports news  agency ANI. Opposition decides to reiterate demand for an apology from the Prime Minister for his remarks, and for discussion under rule 56 in the Lok Sabha, say sources.
