Antony should go: BJP

March 08, 2014 03:22 am | Updated May 19, 2016 06:59 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The BJP on Friday demanded the resignation of Defence Minister A.K. Antony, asking him to take responsibility for the accident aboard a warship in the Mazagaon dockyard, which claimed the life of a naval officer.

“The President must initiate a detailed investigation into this mess. The Prime Minister also owes an explanation on the accidents and our preparedness,” spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said in a statement here.

“This is the 11th serious accident in the past 11 months. This is the result of complete neglect of the Navy by the Congress-led UPA government.”

The Navy had received “a raw deal” in the past 10 years, Mr. Javadekar said, adding the condition of many vessels was precarious.
