The State government on Tuesday announced that it would withdraw the notification to acquire 12,341 acres private land for the Machilipatnam Industrial Corridor (MIC). This is a major chunk of the 33,177 acres being acquired for the purpose.

Addressing a press conference here, Law Minister Kollu Ravindra said that the State government had in principle taken a decision to de-notify private land in 21 villages in Machilipatnam and Pedana mandals. The Minister raised the issue with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently.

“The then District Magistrate and Collector issued the notification in August 2015 to acquire over 12,144 acres private land for the MIC under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The District Magistrate (B. Lakshmikantham) will issue the order in a week, de-notifying the same,” said Mr. Ravindra.

Meanwhile, the district officials speeded up the exercise to de-notify the land.
