A sympathiser of the YSRCP was allegedly killed by unidentified assailants late on Friday near Kandukur village of Anantapur district leading to day-long protests in Anantapur on Saturday by YSRCP leaders and cadre.
Y.T. Venkata Siva Reddy (49), a village level leader of Kandukur village of Raptadu Assembly constituency of Anantapur district, represented by Women and Child Welfare Minister Paritala Sunita, was allegedly stabbed with hunting sickles while he was on his way to Kandukur village from Itukalapalli village on a two-wheeler.
While the Itukulapalli police registered a case and are investigating, YSRCP local leader Topudurti Prakash Reddy alleged the involvement of Ms. Sunita in the murder.
“They (Paritala Sunita and her son Paritala Sreeram) are planning to scare the cadre of the YSRCP before the elections. But we will fight with all our might,” Mr. Prakash Reddy alleged.
Senior YSRCP leader and former Anantapur MP Ananta Venkatrami Reddy, along with several other district level leaders, visited the Anantapur government general hospital where the post-mortem of the deceased was to take place.
Soon after, Mr. Prakash Reddy also visited the hospital along with his supporters leading to an altercation with the police who had thrown a cordon of security to prevent any untoward incident.
Eventually, YSRCP leaders staged a sit-in protest at the hospital demanding that the accused be brought to book along with Ms. Sunita and Mr. Sreeram, who they alleged were behind the murder.
