YSRC well-placed in Anantapur

April 03, 2014 06:34 pm | Updated July 12, 2016 02:41 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

The YSR Congress seems to be well-placed in the upcoming Assembly election for Anantapur Assembly, if the current situation is any indication. While the YSRC has a sitting MLA, who has won twice in a row now - in the general elections of 2009 and in by-election after he resigned to support Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and contested on an YSRC ticket - the TDP which is the other major contending party in the fray has been unsuccessful since the last three elections.

During those three elections, TDP have ticket to a new candidate each time, and this time also, TDP has been facing the problem of selecting the right candidate for the Anantapur Assembly segment.

Though the top contenders for the TDP ticket remain to be Mahalakshmi Srinivas and Prabhakar Chowdary - both have lost an election to the Anantapur Assembly seat contesting on a TDP ticket.

The party may look for a candidate from Muslim community as well . However, Muslims were loyal voters to Congress that seemed to shifted enmass to the YSRC during the recent by-elections.

Meanwhile, the Congress, which could not field contestants in more than half of the 50 wards in Anantapur municipality, finds itself in position unable to field any worthwhile candidate for the Assembly elections.

However, the probable contestant for Congress is emerging to be the INTUC district president K.V. Ramana who has a considerable political background since his days in Left parties.
