Two youth organisations in the city have taken up beautification of the city involving children and youth to create awareness among people about the need to keep the city clean and green.
“We have initiated the programme much before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swachch Bharat” and we are the ambassadors for our programme in the city”, said Siddhartha Maturi, team leader of Rajahmundry Rising. Friends of Mr. Siddhartha joined hands in taking up clean Rajahmundry drive. “After 2003 Godavari pushkarams, the municipal corporation of Rajahmundry had taken up several programmes to keep the city clean. But, the involvement of public is dismal. So we decided to involve public in several activities, beginning with whitewashing the main walls”, he said.
These include historic places like Social Reformist Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu’s residence, Sadanam girls hostel, Railway under bridge at Chitrangi guesthouse, Nandam Ganiraju junction, Pushkara Ghat and other places.
From July 4 2014, Rajahmundry Rising took up 21 projects involving households, students, politicians and social organisations like Lions Club and JCS . “Keeping the forthcoming Pushkarams in view, we are planning to take up many more projects and focus on banning the plastic”, Mr. Siddhartha stated.
We for Rajahmundry
On the other hand, “We for Rajahmundry”, another non-government organisation, also took up the cause in a big-way. Kandrapu Raja Reddy, head of the youth wing, roped in school and college students in cleaning important walls such as, Railway goods-shed wall which is always seen with objectionable filmy posters, box-type bridges near Kotipalli bus stand, Tadithota junction and 50 other places in the City. “We are going to take up cleaning of walls of RTC bus complex and paint it and also different junctions that leads to bathing ghats in view of Pushkarams”-said Mr. Raja Reddy.
He said that the team members would take up clean and green drive from 6 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. every Saturday and from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday.
