A 18-year-old student was stabbed to death by a group of six youngsters, while three others seriously injured, following an altercation over the alleged misbehaviour with a girl at Gunti Veerannagani Palle village of Kalikiri mandal near here, on the small hours of Monday.

Two among the injured were battling for life, while another youth was declared out of danger at Tirupati hospital. The incident took place near the venue of the Goddess Ellamma Jathara at the village.

According to the Kalikiri Police, the deceased has been identified as Ramesh, who, along with three of his friends, was returning from the Jathara to their village Gundluru. They had allegedly made some comments on a girl, who was moving in the company of two other youths from Gunti Veerannagani Palle. Taking offence to the remarks, Arif (20), who was accompanying the girl, immediately summoned four of his friends to the spot.

The six youths then pounced on Ramesh and his three friends and stabbed them indiscriminately, the police said. Ramesh died on the spot, while his friends Venkatesh, Rajasekhar and Eeswaraiah (all aged between 18 and 20) were rushed to the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati, 70 km away from the spot. Police have apprehended five youths, including Arif, while one was absconding. A case has been registered.
