World Ocean Science Congress from Feb. 25

AU V-C says over 1,500 delegates are expected to take part

The three-day World Ocean Science Congress (WOSC) will begin at Andhra University Convocation hall on February 25. The congress is being held by Andhra University in association with Vijnana Bharathi, New Delhi, and Bharatiya Vijnana Mandali, Andhra Pradesh.

Held every four years, this is the second edition of the programme. Stakeholders such as scientists, technocrats, administrators, fisherfolk, geopolitical experts, researchers on climate change and oceanography will be attending the meeting. According to AU Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao, over 1,500 delegates, including 20 experts from foreign countries, over 300 scientists and researchers, will be attending the meet.

Former Oceanography and Meteorology HoD, S.S.V.S. Ramakrishna, who is also the coordinator of the programme, said experts would focus on themes such as oceans in changing climate, coastal habitat and sustainability and ocean and society during the meet.

Fishermen’s meet

A meeting of fishermen has been planned on the second day and student conclave on the third day. The fishermen meet will be organised in association with the INCOIS. Over 250 research papers will be presented. This apart, major research institutes, shipping industry, defence research labs and shipyards will organise an expo. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu, DRDO Chairman G. Satheesh Reddy are likely to attend the meet.
