A 50-year-old woman allegedly murdered her husband and, with the help of her son, dumped the body on the National Highway after dragging it from the fields, to project it as a road accident.

Shantamma and Kishtappa (55) lived at Pengaragunta village of Palamaner mandal. The latter allegedly developed extramarital contacts with several women. An alleged alcoholic, he used to quarrel with wife and family members frequently. Though Shantamma pleaded with him to stay away from his vices, he reportedly started assaulting the family members.

On Thursday night, Shantamma allegedly crushed Kishtappa head with a boulder while he was asleep in the fields, and dragged the body for a kilometre up to the Chittoor-Bengaluru national highway, and dumped it on the road. The Palamaner police, who earlier thought it to be an accident, found strangulation marks on the deceased’s neck, and the absence of blood on the road.

Blood stains

The police also found marks of dragging and blood stains on the road side, leading to a nearby field.

On Friday afternoon, the police took Shantamma into custody and she reportedly confessed to murdering Kishtappa.

The police registered a case and investigation is on.
