Vanthala Chilakamma (25), a Maoist from the Galikonda dalam, surrendered before Chintapalli DSP Anil Pulipati on Sunday.

A resident of Nallabelli of Koyyuru mandal, she had joined the Maoist movement as a militia member in 2008 along with her brother Ramu.

In 2010, she was inducted into the dalam by the then Galikonda area committee member, Gemmeli Narayan Rao alias Jambri.

Jambri was killed in an exchange of fire with the police in February last.

Charges against her

Mr. Anil said Chilakamma wielded a muzzle-loading weapon and participated in famine raids, and ambush-and-attacks on the police parties. She was also involved in the exchanges of fire with the security forces and in blasting the APFDC coffee units at Thimulabandha and R.V. Nagar. She also had a hand in a few cases of murder.

The DSP said Chilakamma quit the movement due to ill-health and arrest of her brother a few months ago.
