A 32-year-old woman along with her two children, aged 8 and 6 years respectively, committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train near Bapatla Engineering College on Friday.

Government Railway Police (GRP) Sub Inspector, Chirala, C. Ashok Babu said the incident was believed to have taken place before 8.50 a.m. and information reached them by 10 a.m. The woman, Pathuri Krishnaveni, was a resident of Devunimanyam area in Bapatla.

Her husband Pathuri Shekhar Babu, lorry driver, left home for Yanam on June 24. The couple has two children Prasanna Lakshmi (8) and Umasri (6).

“We are not able to identify the reason which led the woman to take the extreme step. We will be able to get some clue if we establish contact with her husband. But we are unable to reach him,’’ Mr. Ashok Babu said.

Police said the woman had even visited her mother’s home on Thursday and spent some time with them. Her mother reportedly told the police that her daughter has been suffering from some mental illness while her brother Cheruvu Sivaiah told the police that the couple had no serious differences.
