A woman allegedly made an attempt to kill her two children and commit suicide at Nagupalli village in Dammapeta mandal on Sunday.

Sources said that B. Saritha, 28, a native of Nagupalli, allegedly slit the throats of her two children – Ramakrishna, 4, and Jagruthi, 2, with a blade at her parents' house in the afternoon. The woman then attempted to end her life by cutting her throat as well with the same blade. The three were rushed to the government area hospital in Sattupalli in a serious condition. They were later shifted to a private hospital in Vijayawada, as their condition further deteriorated, sources said.

Depressed

Saritha was believed to be in a state of depression ever since her husband, an employee of a pharmaceutical company, died of ill-health in Hyderabad last month. She returned to her parents' home along with her two children a few days ago.

The exact motive behind the extreme step could not be ascertained immediately, said the police.
