‘Will try to get refund for Fathima students’

Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas said on Saturday he would strive to get a refund for candidates who were denied MBBS seats in the Fathima Insitute of Medical Sciences (FIMS).

The Supreme Court struck down the petition filed by the candidates who were denied admission into the MBBS courses after the Medical Council of India (MCI) refused permission to FIMS. The candidates who had paid huge sums to the college approached the Supreme Court for an order to the MCI and FIMS to make the admissions. The State government also became party to the case.

The Supreme Court while saying the candidates could not be admitted to FIMS because the MCI did not permit it, asked A.P. to submit alternative proposals to accommodate the 99 candidates who had paid the fee.

The government in a proposal said it would accommodate them in the different government medical colleges. The Supreme Court rejected this proposal.

Dr. Srinivas in a press release said he would meet Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda in New Delhi on Monday and discuss the problem. He said he would also discuss the issue with the Chief Minister.

The Minister said he did not favour disciplinary action against FIMS as that would affect the career of 550 students doing courses in the institute.
