‘Will tap private borewells if it fails to rain in 20 days’

Kurnool MP-elect: will raise Gundrevula with YSRCP leaders

Kurnool MP-elect Sanjeev Kumar said he would take up the issue of constructing the Gundrevula reservoir with YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders.

It was speculated that the project, costing ₹2,890 crore, would be dropped by the YSRCP government, along with the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme and the Vedavathi Lift Irrigation Scheme – which were sanctioned by former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

During a visit to a summer storage tank and the Sunkesula Barrage on the outskirts of the city on Monday, he procured information from Irrigation Department officials on water scarcity in the district.

Later, speaking to reporters, he said the Sunkesula Barrage had dried up and the storage tank had 0.6 tmc of water, sourced from the Gajuladinne project. “This water could be used by the city for only 20 days. If it doesn’t rain in 20 days, we will hire private borewells to supply water to the city,” he said.

He added the construction of the Gundrevula reservoir would resolve drinking water scarcity in the district, as 20 tmc of water could be stored there. “Telangana government must play an active role in the construction of the reservoir,” he added.
