Former Minister and Penamaluru MLA K. Parthasaradhi along with Krishna district Collector J. Nivas inaugurated the renovated building of Social Welfare girls’ hostel under the programme ‘Marpu’ at Penamaluru here on Saturday.

Marpu is the brainchild of Mr. Nivas who initiated the renovation of toilets in the welfare hostels as a permanent solution to the problems of inmates.

Mr. Nivas said that Marpu programme was taken up in Srikakulam district where he had worked recently and the same is being implemented in the Krishna district.

He said hostel inmates have been facing inconvenience due to the lack of proper toilets. “Under Marpu we have renovated the toilet block with all modern facilities at ₹17.5 lakh,” he added. He said Marpu will be implemented in 125 welfare hostels in the district.

Mr. Parthasaradhi hailed the initiative by the district administration to provide a comfortable stay for hostellers.
