Water sharing row deepens

A.P. says only a tribunal, not board, is empowered to allocate water

January 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:19 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Andhra Pradesh government has disputed the claim of Telangana that it has utilised its quota of water from Nagarjunasagar right branch canal and termed as “wrong” the latter’s calculations on the issue.

The same view would be conveyed to Krishna River Management Board, which sought the opinion of A.P. government based on a letter from Telangana government. In its letter, the TS government reportedly urged KMRB to allocate water to both the States and that it would not release further water under Nagarjunasagar’s right branch canal since A.P. has already used the quantity allocated to it.

TS contention disputed

Disputing this contention, a top Andhra Pradesh official said A.P. has not yet exhausted its quota of water and the calculations of Telangana were wrong in this regard.

The senior official also made light of the demand that KRMB should allocate water saying only a tribunal was empowered to allocate water not a board.

The official said that a letter would be sent to KMRB on Saturday.
