Collector Ch. Vijaya Mohan on Monday released 500 cusecs into KC Canal by opening two crest gates of Sunkesula balancing reservoir, 28 km from here, to cater to the drinking water needs of some villages in Kurnool mandal. In the wake of heavy rainfall in the downstream of Hospet dam and swelling of Hagari and Vedavathi rivers in Karnataka, Sunkesula reservoir was receiving an inflow of 1500 cusecs, the Collector said. He said 500 cusecs of water would be released per day into KC Canal as long as Sunkesula reservoir received inflows. The water would traverse to a distance of 120 km in KC Canal and would fill the summer storage tanks at Gargeyapuram, Lakshmapuram and Kothapalli to meet the drinking water needs , Mr. Vijaya Mohan said.
