Olympic medalist P.V. Sindhu called upon the electors to consider voting as a moral and ethical responsibility and cast their votes without fail. Ms. Sindhu flagged off and took part in the voter awareness rally organised by the district administration as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme on M.G. Road here on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Sindhu said that exercising vote is a primary right and moral responsibility of every elector. She asked the voters not to fall for the offers of the contestants and cast their valuable vote in a fair manner to the candidate they want to see as their representative.

Role of youth

District Collector and District Election Officer A. Md. Imtiaz highlighted the role of youth in elections. “Every vote that is polled can change how our future gets shaped. Voters should choose a leader who cares for the future of the society,” he said.

He asked the youth not to give in to the incentives and inducements offered by contestants in the name of religion, caste and cash. The rally began at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium and proceeded on the M.G. Road via Benz Circle before ending at the Sub-Collector’s office.

A large number of youth took part in the rally.

Commissioner of Police Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, SVEEP convener and Joint Collector Krithika Shukla, Joint Collector-2 P.V. Babu Rao, DTC E. Meera Prasad, SRR& CVR Govt. College Principal V. Joshi and others were present on the occasion.
