YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Y.S. Sharmila has warned that voting the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to power would result in the development of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) going back by 25 years. She said it was up to the people to choose between her brother Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who she contended practised politics of ethics and has a clear vision for the State, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who she alleged had failed to fulfil even one of the 600 promises he made during the 2014 elections.

Ms. Sharmila said it was due to the vociferous protests by Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy against the denial of the Special Category Status (SCS) by the Central government that Mr. Naidu had taken a ‘U-turn’ and challenged him to prove otherwise. She also questioned the reason for Mr. Naidu’s inability to complete the construction of at least one permanent building in the capital Amaravati.

Addressing mediapersons at the State party office here on Monday, Ms. Sharmila said her father and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) had won the people’s trust by doing justice to every section of society whereas Mr. Naidu ‘deceived the masses on various counts’.

Farm loan waiver

The TDP government was under an obligation to waive farm loans amounting to ₹87,000 crore but citing various excuses, the Kotaiah Committee had pruned it to ₹24,000 crore. Even this was not fulfilled in spite of it being the first thing which Mr. Naidu promised to clear on coming to power, she alleged.

Ms. Sharmila asked why the government has so far not been able to catch the culprits in the sensational voter data theft case and dared Mr. Naidu to get Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder probed by a third party, holding him responsible for the spree of political killings in the YSR family which started with that of his father Raja Reddy.

Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan was acting under the direction of Mr. Naidu and it would become clear sooner or later, she said, adding that she would begin campaigning at Mangalagiri in Guntur district on March 29.
