Volvo Auto launched V-40, a luxury hatch at a starting price of Rs. 24.75 lakh, at an event held in the city on Wednesday. The luxury car was made available in the Indian market in two variants, including D3 Kinetic and D3 R-designs, from Wednesday onwards.

While the Kinetic variant is priced at Rs. 24.75 lakh, the D3 R variant is priced at Rs. 27.7 lakh. The company that draws 20 to 25 per cent of its net sales from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will launch a new sales and service showroom in Vijayawada by September. It has two showrooms in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh.

In 2014, Volvo Auto-India sold 300 cars in Hyderabad and 100 in Vijayawada. The company expects to see a growth by 12 per cent in the future, said Sudeep Narayan, director, PR and Digital, Volvo Auto India. “The country launch was done in the city as we see a high growth potential in this market,” he added. The car has several features that support drives in Indian cities, including safety options that benefit both pedestrians and riders, the company representatives said. The city safety feature of the car allows it to automatically apply brakes if the driver does not react when the vehicle in front slows down abruptly. The car also has side impact protection that reduces the impact on occupants in the event of crash. It also has driver knee airbags and safety cage that is capable of withstanding impact, the company announced.
