The biggest lingering question in the minds of politicians in Medak district is from where will rebel TRS MP M. Vijayashanti, who crossed over to the Congress recently, contest.

As on Tuesday, Ms. Vijayashanti was still in Delhi holding discussions with Congress party seniors, according to sources.

She was placed under suspension by the TRS leadership for making a firm resolve to seek re-election from Medak parliamentary constituency. She had won the seat by a margin of 6,000 votes in the 2009 elections.

For the past three years, she has been making serious efforts to nurture the constituency and this led to differences with the party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao. She had openly stated that ‘none on the earth can prevent her from contesting the elections from Medak’ leading to fissure in the party over the issue. Within few months she was suspended from the party for anti-party activities.

She shocked the TRS leaders by pulling off a coup of a sort when two senior leaders G. Vijayarama Rao and A. Chandrasekhar – both Dalit leaders joined the Congress. She herself was admitted into the Congress in the presence of AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

According to sources, Ms. Vijayashanti has not yet decided from where to contest though she has been mulling her options on Medak Lok Sabha seat and Medak Assembly seat as well. She is reportedly in favour of Assembly seat rather than Lok Sabha seat.

When The Hindu tried to contact Ms. Vijayashanti, one Srinivas Prasad answered the call and said that she is in Delhi and will be back by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
