More than 400 take part in quiz and elocution competition at Pentathlon

Students of the Vignan Junior College, Vadlamudi, in the district, won the regional round of the academic pentathlon organised by The Hindu in association with the Vignan University here on Tuesday.

More than 400 students from schools in Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore district vied for top honours in quiz competitions in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry besides an elocution competition in English on the topic - Social Media-Pros and Cons.

While A. Leelagurucharan, N. Ramakrishna, R. Gopinadh, M. Sagar Mahesh, S. V. N.S. Manikanta, P. Jaswanth Bhavani, A. Sai Teja, S. Akhil, B. Nikhilesh Reddy and K. Dinesh won the round, students from Sri Chaitanya Jr. College, Mahathi Bhavan, Guntur, Sk. Anjum Niha, N. Bhavana Rani, N. Vaishnavi, Ch. Kusuma Sanjana, B. Anila, G. Srilikhita, G. Niharika Sai, Ch. Sai Meghna, Sk. Bhanu Fazra and K. Chandrika came second. Principal of the TJPS Degree College Y. Siva Prasad gave away the prizes to winners, while principal of the TJPS PG College Anil Kumar gave away the prizes to the runners up. The Quiz was conducted by M. Sudhakar and Mythili.

The Hindu Future India Club– Academic Pentathlon is a competition conducted for class 11 and 12 students across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and is sponsored by the Vignan’s Foundation for Science, Research and Technology (Vignan University), Vadlamudi.

The second edition will take place across five centres in A.P. and three centres in Telangana, with the grand finale at the university.

Scholarship prizes

At the regional round, each team has 10 students and the top six teams with the best overall score qualify for the second round of the event from which the top two teams will qualify for the grand finale.

The winners of the grand finale will get a 50% scholarship, and second and third prize winners will get a 25% scholarship if they seek admission to the university (atleast 9.5 CGPA for students from A.P. and 940 marks for students from Telangana should be obtained in the Intermediate examination)

Regional winners will get scholarship of 10% if they seek admission to the university (a minimum of 9.33 CGPA for students from A.P. and 940 marks for students from Telangana should be obtained in the Intermediate examination).
