Officials of the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) Department conducted raids on the office of the Director of Insurance Medical Services (IMS), here on Tuesday.

Following allegations of irregularities in purchasing and supply of medicines to Employee’s State Insurance (ESI) hospitals in Telangana, the V&E sleuths verified records in the IMS Director’s office.

“As per the directions of Director General (DG) Vigilance and Enforcement K.V. Rajendranath Reddy, searches were conducted in the Director’s office and we have seized some records. The raids will continue,” said Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer (RVEO) N. Venkat Reddy.

Vigilance sleuths are planning to conduct searches in ESI Dispensaries across the State.

Recently, Labour, Employment and Training Minister Gummanuru Jayaram, who visited the ESI Hospital, verified records and ordered an inquiry into the drugs scam and on the financial irregularities in the ESI Director’s office, in which some top officials and doctors were involved.

“Vigilance inspectors Hanumantha Rao and Rajanikanth verified the bills, dispatch registers and other ledgers for the last few years. We will question the officers and staff, if necessary,” the RVEO told The Hindu .

The Telangana ACB officials arrested IMS Director Ch. Devika Rani, Joint Director K. Padma, a pharmacist, senior assistant and other private persons in the scam so far.
