Vakapalli case: special PP files plea on case property

Seeks details of order for destruction of seized saris

The hearing of the Vakapalli gang-rape case that was scheduled to take place on Monday was adjourned to September 28, as material evidence was not produced in the court as desired.

In the last hearing in the Special Court here, Special Public Prosecutor Sunkara Rajendra Prasad had filed a petition and also sent letters to the SP, DIG of Police, Visakhapatnam, and also to the Additional SP, CB-CID seeking production of the case property.

The case property included the saris, blouses and petticoats of the women that were seized during their medical examination at the King George Hospital on August 28, 2007.

On Monday, the CB-CID submitted a letter to the Sessions Court, issued by the Director, Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (TSFSL), Hyderabad that the case property had been destroyed as per G.O. MS No 1688 dated May 17, 1962 of the Health, Housing and Municipal Administration department. However, a sealed cover said to contain the bangle pieces of the women were submitted to the court.

The Special Public Prosecutor filed a petition in the court on Monday seeking to know the date of order for the destruction of the case property and the procedures followed for the same. A letter to this effect was addressed to the CB-CID too.

The Special Public Prosecutor sought information about the register entries maintained by the forensic laboratory and the names of those personnel who were entrusted with the task.
