UNESCO Club’s solar power project to light up villages

October 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - PARACHIVARA (KRISHNA):

The Krishna District United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Club will provide solar power supply to seven villages under Parachivara panchayat in Krishna district. Works pertaining to erection of poles and installation of solar panels have started. This will facilitate solar power to the coastal villages surrounded by the Bay of Bengal and dense mangrove forest cover in Nagayalanka mandal.

“The solar panels proposed to be set up in 21 locations across the coastal belt will initially supply power to streetlights. The second phase will cover all houses in the seven hamlets. The project is scheduled to be inaugurated on October 22,” said club president Mohammed Silar.

The club, which wants to promote solar power mainly to make the fishermen community realise the benefits of the green energy source, will also take care of maintenance of the solar panels. Bondada Engineering Private Limited is sponsoring the project .
