Relatives wail over the death of Azhagan.

Azhagan (27), an undertrial in the Tirupati sub-jail, reportedly succumbed to illness late on Monday night.

Azhagan hailed from Bonganur village of Polur taluk in Tiruvannamalai district, Tamil Nadu. The village falls under the now infamous Javvadu hills that supplies workforce to fell red sanders trees. He was arrested along with Sundara Murthy by the red sanders task force team on September 14 in Yerragutta area of Seshachalam forest. The duo was produced before the IV Additional Judicial Magistrate of first class, who sent them to judicial remand the next day.

On Monday, fellow inmates found Azhagan's face swollen and his eyes having turned yellow. He was immediately rushed to the Ruia hospital as an out-patient, where he was diagnosed to be anaemic. However, he died around 10.30 p.m. the same day allegedly due to heart attack.

According to the sub-jail Superintendent Venugopal, the undertrial had not divulged his illness and was found weak at an advanced stage.

Meanwhile, Azhagan's mother Kannamma expressed doubts over the death, indicating that her son had no previous complaint of anaemia. Her attempts to seek bail for her son had failed twice in the past.

Azhagan is survived by wife Vijaya, son Satish (4) and daughter Soundarya (1).
