Close on the heels of derailment of a goods train near Manubolu railway station in Nellore district on Thursday, two persons were killed when a ‘light engine’ rammed an autorickshaw at an unmanned level crossing between Gajjelakonda and Markapur in Prakasam district on Friday.

The mishap occurred near Rayavaram at about 7.00 am when the autorickshaw was proceeding to pick up farm workers under the MGNREGS from Naidupalli village, railway officials said.

The auto driver apparently failed to notice the engine with the level crossing in the midst of lush green fields. The deceased were identified as Prasad (28) and Pollappa (28).
