Two held, valuables worth Rs. 26.77 lakh recovered

Stolen valuables worth Rs. 26.77 lakh were recovered with the arrest of two habitual offenders, including one from Chennai, here on Friday. Superintendent of Police Ch. Srikanth told the media on Friday night that the arrested duo-- Sukumar (45) hailing from Chennai and Ramakrishna (40), a native of Tenali, were allegedly involved in many house-breaking and three chain-snatching incidents reported from different colonies within three police station limits in the last one year.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials from I Town, II Town and Ongole Taluka police stations made the arrests and recovered 1,337 sovereigns of gold ornaments and 81 grams of silver articles from the accused. They were wanted for similar offences reported from Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Nellore and Tirupati too, the SP said.

The SP said the duo used to conduct a recce, break open houses and decamp with the valuables.
