Two held, valuables worth ₹50 lakh seized

SP says accused are involved in several house break-ins and vehicle- liftings

Police achieved a breakthrough in a series of house break-ins and vehicle-lifting cases with the arrest of two accused on Tuesday.

Valuables worth ₹50 lakh, including 1.403 gram gold ornaments and 3,560 kg silver articles, were seized from them by the Nellore Rural police, Superintendent of Police Aishwarya Rastogi told reporters here. The two accused — P. Thirupathi Swamy (27) from Podili in Prakasam district and Lakshmipathi (28) from Chittoor district — were also allegedly involved in three vehicle thefts and also booked for giving a slip while in police custody and for causing a fatal road accident. Tirupathi Swamy had allegedly committed about 80 offences and some of them in Telangana and 17 non-bailable warrants were pending against him in various police stations. Two of their associates K.R. Mohan and Mahendra had already been arrested on September 24 near Mypadu Beach in Indukurpeta mandal. Police had recovered 41.5 gm gold jewellery from Mohan and 50.5 grams gold ornaments from Mahendra and the accused were remanded.
