The Nalgonda police on Friday arrested two ex-convicts - Mogalipaka Srinu and Akkenapalli Ganesh, both aged about 30 years, and recovered at their instance 37 tolas of gold jewellery and 3.5 kg of silver, all worth Rs.12 lakh. They caught the duo at Duppalapalli village in Valigonda mandal, while checking vehicles, Nalgonda DSP Vijay Paul told press persons.

He said Srinu and Ganesh were nabbed by two police teams, headed by CIs of Chandur - Lakshminarayana and Shaligowraram - Ramulu Naik. The teams comprised SIs Jaganmohan Reddy, of Tipparti and Munugode police stations, besides several CIs and SIs of the CCS.

The duo, who became friends in jail, continued their crimes and had 13 cases registered against them. They committed mostly day offences in Nalgonda, Halia, Chityal, Kattangur, Tipparti, Narketpalli, Kanagal, Chandur, and Munugode. The DSP advised people to promptly inform police so that the offenders could be apprehended. He cited the example of a duo relieving a woman of two gold bangles and handing over to her a packet containing rold-gold ones and claiming to be policemen.

The victim took one-and-a-half-hour to lodge the complaint, he said. Mr. Paul also stressed the importance of people not believing strangers, noting their vehicle numbers and remembering features of offenders so that they could be identified from records. If people delay giving information to police, the offenders could escape, he said.
