The Kadapa police on Saturday arrested yet another Chinese person as part of their operation against red sanders smuggling. Wu Qinfan, 32, was picked up at Koramangala circle in Bengaluru, and one log of the contraband wood worth Rs. 75,000, cash of Rs. 2.50 lakh and a black zip bag were seized from his possession.
Kadapa Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Rahul Dev Sharma said Wu Qinfan, son of Wu Yang Guan, worked in a restaurant in Xian You Xian village in Lai Dianzhen town in Ximpu Can district in Fujian Province of China, but was presently living in a ST Bed Layout at Koramangala in Bengaluru.
Wu was arrested on the basis of leads provided by two other alleged red sanders smugglers, Pem Thar and Pathan Liaqat Khan, both arrested on Friday.
Wu was taken to Kadapa on Saturday evening and presented before the media.
A special team of the Kadapa police, headed by Pulivendula ASP Anbu Rajan, had arrested Pathan Liaqat Khan of Katikanahalli village in Hoskote taluk in Karnataka during a vehicle check near the Chinnamandem police station on the Rayachoti-Madanapalle road on Friday. A Ford Icon car and red sanders wood worth Rs. 2 lakh were seized from him.
The other passengers in the car, Sardar, Mahabub Baig of Katikanahalli and Zubair Ali of Bengaluru, fled the scene, he said.
Khan led them to Pem Thar, 26, supposedly also of China, who lived in Koramangalam Block IV in Bengaluru.
Logs seized
Eight pieces of red sanders wood worth Rs. 68,000 were seized from the latter too, Mr. Sharma said. Liaqat Khan allegedly purchased red sanders from one Janardhan Reddy of Peddakalavapalli village in Rayachoti mandal and sold them to Pem Thar, who in turn, transported the contraband to smugglers in China, ASP Anbu Rajan said.
