Two arrested for stealing luggage

Tirupati East Police have arrested two persons in connection with several luggage lifting cases reported for in and around the temple city. Gold ornaments valued at Rs.8 lakh, one laptop, four cellphones and Rs.10,000 in cash were recovered from their possession.

According to sources, the accused, identified as Somu (28) and Arjunaiah (38), were nabbed near the Lakshmipuram Circle on Thursday evening. Police found them moving in the locality suspiciously and checked their belongings, which included a large bag.

Further investigation revealed that Somu and Arjunaiah, both residents of Oteru and Thanapalle areas of Tiruchanur, were habitual offenders operating for the past two and half years.

. The accused were moving in the area trying to covert the stolen gold into cash, when they were nabbed, the police said.
